One Week Wedding Countdown Beauty Planner

5-7 Days Before Your Wedding

  • Have any waxing or pedicures done at the start of the week to not affect your spray tan.
  • Have your eyebrows professionally shaped and tinted.
  • Indulge in an exfoliating facial, but make sure that the products used are ones which you have used before to avoid any adverse reactions. Try our amazing resident beauty therapist Alicia from Nurture Skin & Body
  • A deep conditioning hair treatment is a great way to make your hair shiny and healthy.

Two Days Before Your Wedding

  • Triple check all your timings for the wedding day to ensure everything will run smoothly.
  • Have your professional spray tan done, which we can also help you out with! We always recommend you trial any spray tan a few weeks prior, if possible.

The Night Before Your Wedding

  • Wash your hair with a double shampoo then conditioner, be sure to wash the conditioner out thoroughly. Let the hair air dry and avoid using any products in it, but you can straighten it with heated hair irons if you need to.
  • Practise reading through your vows, practise makes perfect!
  • Try to get a good sleep and stay hydrated, drink plenty of water and using a hydrating night cream.

Your Wedding Day!

  • Wash and moisturise your face, but make sure that your moisturiser does not contain any SPF factor as this will cause flashback in your wedding photos.
  • Wear a comfy robe while you are having your hair and makeup done. Make sure that you are not wearing any tops which need to be pulled over your head, so a button up blouse would work well.
  • Have a portable speaker on hand and a good playlist to make the morning fun & upbeat or chill & relaxing, whichever energy you need!
  • Ask for help putting on your wedding dress to avoid any hair & makeup mishaps!
  • Take a few moments to just breathe and soak in the incredible moments of your special day.

5 Wedding Hair and Makeup Tips – from an Auckland Bridal Hairstylist & Makeup Artist

You’ve sent out the invitations, found your dress and secured your venue, the countdown to your wedding day has officially begun.

Now it’s time to bring together the details that complete your bridal look. Your wedding hair and makeup should feel like the best version of you, think elevated, natural and designed to last all day.

As experienced Auckland bridal hairstylists and makeup artists, these are the five tips we always share with brides when planning their wedding day beauty.

1. Book a Bridal Hair and Makeup Trial

bridal hair and makeup trial is one of the most important steps when planning your wedding look.

Your trial allows you to work closely with your hairstylist and makeup artist to explore styles, colours and finishes that suit your hair type, skin tone and overall wedding aesthetic. It ensures everything feels just right before the big day and eliminates any surprises.

We usually recommend booking your bridal hair and makeup trial 3–8 weeks before your wedding, once your dress and accessories have been finalised.

Many brides searching for bridal makeup trial tips are surprised by how helpful this appointment is, it allows both your hairstylist and makeup artist to refine the details so your look feels effortless and beautifully polished on the day.

2. Bring Hair and Makeup Inspiration to Your Trial

Before your appointment, spend some time collecting bridal hair and makeup inspiration. While Pinterest can be a helpful starting point, many images are now AI-generated, so we recommend drawing inspiration from real bridal work on Instagram, even better if it’s from our page:
instagram.com/freshandflawlessnz

Look for images that have similar hair colour, hair thickness, skin tone and overall style to your own. This helps your hairstylist and makeup artist create a look that works beautifully with your natural features.

At your trial, we’ll talk through what you love about each image, whether it’s glowing skin, soft eyeshadow tones, textured waves or a polished low bun. Our experienced Auckland-based wedding hair and makeup artists will adapt these ideas to suit your face shape, hair type and overall bridal style.

3. Wear a Top Similar to Your Wedding Dress

This is a simple tip that can make a big difference.

For your bridal trial, wear a top with a similar colour and neckline to your wedding dress. Seeing your makeup against white or ivory tones helps you understand how the final look will appear in photos and in person on the day.

It also helps when choosing your hairstyle. If you’re considering an upstyle or low bun, seeing your shoulders and neckline exposed can help you visualise the overall bridal look.

This is also a good time to decide whether you would like to book a spray tan before your wedding day, especially if your hairstyle will show more of your shoulders and décolletage.

4. Allow Plenty of Time for Hair and Makeup on the Wedding Morning

Professional wedding hair and makeup in Auckland usually takes around 45–60 minutes per service, per person, depending on the style and the size of your bridal party.

Your bridal beauty team will create a timeline for the morning, so everything runs smoothly and everyone is ready on time with no rushing.

If your hairstylist and makeup artist are travelling to you, try to set aside a space with good natural light and enough room for both artists to work comfortably. Natural light helps makeup artists perfect skin tones and allows hairstylists to clearly see the texture and shape of the style they are creating.

5. Consider a Lip Colour Slightly Stronger Than Your Everyday Shade

Your wedding makeup needs to look beautiful both in person and in professional photography, which means colours often need to be slightly stronger than your everyday makeup.

Soft rose tones, pinks and muted plums are always flattering bridal choices, although a well-balanced nude can also look stunning. Your makeup artist can even custom mix a lip shade that perfectly complements your colouring and bridal look.

Lips can be finished in matte, satin or gloss, depending on your preference. If you’re wearing your hair down and your wedding location tends to be windy, a satin or matte finish can sometimes be the safest option.

Your makeup artist will also provide a lip touch-up, so your colour stays fresh throughout the celebrations.
